Who are we?

Our Mission

Hello, we are Southland Prepper. With the ever changing political and economic landscape bearing down on the whole of the nation, we believe now more than ever, that every person should be armed with knowledge and prepared for any scenario. With this in mind, we set out to share everything we have learned, and bring genuine conversations about survival, prepping, and everything between. Prepping can be a full lifestyle to which you dedicate all of your time, or it can be the average family taking some precautions towards readiness. Regardless of where you fall on this the end goal is ALWAYS BE READY, and we are here to help.

Get to know tyler

Hello there, my name is Tyler and I am so glad you found our site. I am here to help you learn, prepare, adapt and overcome!

Where it all started:

I was born and raised in the fields and hills of a small east Tennessee town nobody has heard of. The town of Ten Mile, Tennessee has a small population where the cows vastly outnumber the people and no matter the type of soda it was all called “Coke”. I was part of large close-knit family that centered around my grandparent’s house. My papaw built that house with his bare hands and, having been raised during the great depression, he was from a generation where they fixed things that broke instead of throwing it out and buying new. He was one of the hardest working and most well-prepared men I have ever known. He was always working on things and was a jack of all trades. He had a strong passion for family and a deep love for classic cars and corn bread from a cast iron skillet. My papaw instilled all of these values in my dad who in turn instilled them into me.

My dad lived in a little old house down a long gravel road that sat on an 850 Acre farm. The house sat in the valley surrounded by fields, ridges, woods and streams. There were only 3 houses on that road and none of them could see one another for being spread out and around hills. I spent a great deal of my childhood there in the countryside. My dad taught me how to hunt, fish, trap, and how to live off the land. It was this upbringing that gave me a deep appreciation for preparedness and all the necessary skills to survive. I spent every weekend practice shooting, hiking the hills, or wading the creek cane pole fishing. Survival and living off the land is part of my DNA. I learned the value of hard work at a very young age, and there in those woods is where my love for self-sufficiency was born.

I was with hard work and conservative values at heart. In high school I was a member of 4H and raised chickens and livestock as well as judged them at the state fair. I also took several greenhouse classes and spent many hours working in the greenhouses on campus growing vegetables and herbs. I spent time learning to weld and worked with my other grandfather as a carpenter to build and remodel homes in my spare time.

I later would decide to focus on a career path, and while working a full-time job with at least 50 hours a week I was accepted into college and paid my own way through. That hard work paid off and I enrolled in classes at Tennessee Wesleyan College where I would graduate with honors and having received a bachelor’s degree in finance and in general management.

After college I worked for a global manufacturing company as a business specialist who guided the growth of the company and advised the executive members, both foreign and domestic. Here is where I really grew my skills as a strong leader, and excellent planner and organizer. You may not think much of this, but the Japanese based company is very focused on the concept of continuous improvement and efficiency. You can easily translate these practices into the prepper life. Plan well, be efficient in all areas, take no unnecessary risks, constantly study your environment for ways to improve, etc…

OK But What About Survival and Preparedness?

As I mentioned before, I spent most of my young life in the wilderness of farm I grew up on. I spent a lot of that time hunting or backpacking. This is also where my love of “all things” survival and prepping began.

I was in college when the “Great Recession” occurred after the crash in 2008 and I decided then that it was time to protect myself and my family. I knew I needed to learn how to prepare for any worst-case scenario. I joined forces with a couple of buddies who were more experienced survivalists and preppers. I realized that I had been preparing to be a prepper my whole life and that my dad and papaw had taught me everything I needed to know to get started. I had never thought about it that way before, and while my dad or papaw weren’t really preppers, I was so lucky to have been raised with the necessary skills. I was armed with skills at a young age, from guns to food stockpiling and growing, from bugging out to bushcraft, water procurement, and shelter building. I practiced all these skills before I was even a teenager. Now with life post covid, and having seen firsthand how fast things can change, I’ve decided to take my survival and prepping skills to the next level. Since then, I’ve built a substantial food stockpile, a water storage system, and gained a ton of prepping gear and supplies. When Sh*t hits the fan, me and mine will be ready… ALWAYS READY!

Here is where you come in

I am truly concerned about the fragile state our nation and world are in. The political and economic environment is built like a powder keg ready to ignite into a full-on disaster at any given minute, not to mention the constantly changing climate with what feels like a continued onslaught of record-breaking storms and natural disasters. With all of this in mind, I feel obligated to share with you all that I know in the hopes that it will make a difference, and at the very least, inspire others to be prepared.

By reading this blog you are supporting the cause, and helping to learn the skills necessary to protect and support your family in the event of a catastrophic event or even an emergency situation in which you may find yourself stranded. I truly hope you can gain some value from this, and maybe even some entertainment along the way. I greatly appreciate the support!

Stay Ready,

Tyler
